This paper details the design and implementation of a real-time image enhancement system specifically tailored for black and white images like Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The system leverages Verilog Hardware Description Language (HDL) for the high-speed, parallel hardware implementation of the enhancement algorithm, complemented by MATLAB for algorithm development .The primary goal is to achieve low-latency, high-throughput image processing by offloading the computational burden from a general-purpose processor directly onto the FPGA fabric.
The system is validated through experiments that assess key performance metrics such as processing time, resource utilization, and resulting image quality, demonstrating the FPGA's capability to execute complex enhancement operations in real time. The results confirm the effectiveness of this hardware-accelerated approach, making it highly suitable for applications requiring immediate visual feedback, such as portable embedded systems and devices demanding high-speed image data processing with minimal power consumption.
