Objective

It aims to maximize coverage, minimize energy consumption, and enhance network lifetime despite limited prior knowledge of targets. Additionally, the objective is to improve adaptability and reliability of wireless sensor networks in challenging and dynamic environments

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) play a critical role in monitoring and surveillance applications, particularly in constrained environments where energy, communication, and computational resources are limited. A significant challenge arises when prior knowledge of target locations or environmental conditions is scarce, which hinders efficient deployment and data collection strategies. This paper addresses the problem of WSN optimization under limited a priori target information, focusing on balancing coverage, connectivity, and energy consumption. We propose an adaptive optimization framework that integrates heuristic-based deployment strategies with dynamic sensing and communication protocols. The approach enables sensor nodes to self-organize, refine their sensing regions, and optimize routing paths while adapting to uncertain conditions. Simulation results demonstrate improved network lifetime, robust target detection, and enhanced energy efficiency compared to conventional static deployment methods. The proposed framework provides a scalable solution for applications such as disaster management, military surveillance, and environmental monitoring, where traditional optimization strategies relying on complete prior information are impractical.
