Towards Energy Efficient Cost Effective Toffoli Gate Design using Quantum Cellular Automata

Objective

This work presents an energy-efficient and cost-effective QCA design of a 3X3 Toffoli gate which utilizes the Layered T (LT) logic reduction technique.

Abstract

Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) is the most promising area of interest in emerging nanotechnologies due to its extreme-low power dissipation, ultra-high operating speed and diminutive feature size. In addition, developing reversible circuits that do not waste information may further reduce energy losses. The Toffoli gate is the commonly used reversible gate to construct QCA-based reversible circuits. This work presents an energy-efficient and cost-effective QCA design of a 3X3 Toffoli gate which utilises the Layered T (LT) logic reduction technique. The gallium-arsenide heterostructure-based bistable-approximation simulation parameters are used in QCADesigner  to verify the functionality of the proposed layout. The QCADesigner tool with a coherence vector (watt/energy) simulation is further employed to assess energy dissipation.
