In this project, the main objective was to propose a Totem Pole Dual Output Bridgeless Rectifier (TP-DO-BR) for high-performance, low-power Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drives. The aim was to reduce power losses, size, and complexity in the rectifier stage. This topology also reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and increases overall system reliability.
This project discusses the analysis and design of a Totem Pole Bridgeless Dual Output (TPBLDO) Power Factor Correction (PFC) converter, aimed at enhancing the power quality of the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) system used in low-power applications. To ensure efficient PFC amidst supply fluctuations and variable DC link voltage for SRM drive speed regulation, the proposed TPBLDO rectifier incorporates a non-isolated AC–DC converter. The design of the TPBLDO rectifier operates in discontinuous mode (DCM), which ensures compliance with inherent grid power quality, reduces inductor size, and enhances adaptability for low-power, low-cost applications. Additionally, DCM operation allows high-frequency diodes to be turned off and switches to be turned on with zero current, following the zero current switching (ZCS) principle for the bridgeless dual output PFC converter. The working modes, component selection, and control of the TPBLDO converter-assisted SRM drive are discussed in detail, with its performance initially validated through MATLAB simulation.
