The primary objective of the "Security and Feasibility of Power Line Communications System" project is to comprehensively assess and enhance the security posture while evaluating the technical feasibility of implementing a Power Line Communications (PLC) system.
When it comes to providing broadband to households and businesses, Power Line Communication (PLC) has the potential to displace traditional wiring infrastructure as the go-to connectivity solution. As a result, there would be no need for additional infrastructure, saving money.
There has been a lot of research done on the PLC channel's characterisation, standardisation, and applications. Because the security of PLC has not been completely investigated, such assessments are required to create successful PLC communication systems in the future. PLC employs power lines as the medium, hence it shares security features with wireless communications.
This paper discusses the utility of PLC networks and security issues. The authentication and encryption process of the PLC standard is also covered.
Keywords: Authentication, Cryptography, Integrity control, Power Line Communication, Security.
