Project Code :TEPGED255

Objective

The main objective of this project is to develop the usage of Electric Vehicles at remote locations and reduce the burden on Grid by implementing an Off-Grid Charging Station (OGCS) powered by PV, coupled with Energy Storage System (ESS) to provide clean supply to EV.

Abstract

This paper proposes an off-grid charging station (OGCS) to increase the use of electric vehicles (EVs) in remote locations while minimizing grid burden in urban areas, utilizing renewable energy sources (RES) such as photovoltaic (PV) energy, which is abundant and easy to install. However, PV energy fluctuates due to changes in irradiance, and cannot provide constant energy, necessitating an energy storage system (ESS) to meet demand and improve the sustainability of the charging station. The proposed system includes a PV array with a boost converter, two bi-directional converters (BDC) for charging/discharging the EV and ESS, and an ESS to store excess energy during times of surplus generation, ensuring stable system operation when PV energy is insufficient. This leads to a reliable, efficient, and pollution-free off-grid EV charging station. The system has been implemented in MATLAB/Simulink to verify its performance.
