Abstract

We know that the needs of many people with disabilities can be overcome with
power wheelchair, but some portion of this community is finding it difficult to operate power
wheelchair, though we have evolved in the field of health care and technology, but we are still
not good enough to solve difficulties of this sector of population. This paper introduces an
automated system to control the motor rotation of wheel chair based on vocal commands of
physically challenged person. In order to facilitate these people for their independent movement,
here we are using the Bluetooth Application as a mediator between the user and the wheel chair.
The Commands such as forward, backward, left, right and stop are given through voice to the
system. In this for the safety of the disabled person we are also using the MEMS sensor to reduce
the speed during the slope edges. The automated wheelchair is based on simple electronic control
system and the mechanical arrangement that is controlled by an Arduino microcontroller.
