OFDM Based RADAR-Communication System Development

Project Code :TMMACO113

Objective

Investigate an OFDM-based RADCOM system to enhance vehicular communications and radar detection. Analyze system performance under dynamic conditions for communication (BER) and radar (target detection).

Abstract

This paper highlights the hardware implementation of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based joint radar and communication (RADCOM) system for the vehicular application. Improvement of the communication system due to the application of OFDM is well established and the same advantages can be exploited to enhance the radar performance. The frequency diversity of the OFDM signal improves the radar performance significantly. This motivates the authors to develop a RADCOM system based on OFDM waveform. This paper includes the performance analysis of the OFDM based RADCOM system under the dynamic vehicular channel conditions. Communication system performance is analyzed based on the bit error rate (BER) and the performance of the radar system is evaluated based on target detection.
