Objective

This main objective of this project is to develop an effective energy management strategy (EMS) for a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) composed of batteries and supercapacitors. This EMS aims to optimize power allocation between the battery and supercapacitor, enhance the dynamic response of the system, stabilize the DC bus voltage, and extend the lifespan of the battery.

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel EMS based on a combination of rule-based EMS and a fuzzy logic controller. In order to optimal power allocation between the battery and SC, the filter cut-off frequency is tuned by the use of a fuzzy logic controller. In addition, to increase the dynamic response of the HESS in stabilizing the DC bus voltage, sliding mode control (SMC) is used. The effective control of the storage system has great importance in maintaining the balance between generation and demand to regulate the bus voltage in the DC microgrid. For this purpose, by using the battery/super-capacitor (SC) hybrid energy storage system (HESS), more goals can be achieved, such as increasing the dynamic response of the system and increasing the battery. HESS in stabilizing the DC bus voltage, sliding mode control (SMC) is used. The performance of the proposed EMS is validated by simulation results that are carried out in by using Matlab Simulink software 2018a
