Abstract

This paper is focused on DC micro-grid protection analysis with different types of faults and the effects on power electronics devices like voltage source converter (VSC), DC-DC converter, and impact in power loads. The first case is PV connected to the Battery (off-grid), the second case is PV connected to the main grid (on-grid) and the last case is PV & Battery connected to main grid, then a fault analysis study for these cases.

The normal circuit breaker has been used for protection and in the future, we can use a different types of protection for DC microgrid. The simulations are obtained using MATLAB/SIMULINK, the results for all cases has been given in section-V, for section one and two all figures at a normal operation and last cases shows the effects of fault on transmission lines and all equipment needed for a DC microgrid. The fault affects in bus and circuit breaker (CB) protect buses from current fault, but the fault current very high, we need to design a new method for DC microgrid protection

Keywords: Direct Current (DC), Fault Protection, Voltage Source Converter (VSC), DC Microgrid, And Converters (DC-DC-AC).
