Improved Performance Analysis and Reactive Power Compensation of FACTS Devices Utilizing Fuzzy Logic

Project Code :TEPGPS913

Objective

The main objective of this project is to improve the performance analysis and reactive power compensation of FACTS devices by integrating Fuzzy Logic-based control strategies, thereby enhancing system stability, voltage regulation, and power quality in AC transmission networks.

Abstract

This project focuses on improving the performance analysis and reactive power compensation of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices using Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC). FACTS devices such as STATCOM and UPFC play a crucial role in enhancing voltage stability and power quality in modern power systems. Traditional controllers, like PI-based approaches, often struggle with nonlinear and dynamic grid conditions. To overcome these limitations, a MATLAB/Simulink-based Fuzzy Logic Controller is developed to optimize the operation of STATCOM and UPFC, ensuring faster response and improved compensation efficiency. The proposed method dynamically adjusts reactive power support based on real-time system conditions, reducing power losses and enhancing grid reliability. Performance evaluation under various load and fault conditions demonstrates superior voltage regulation, reduced harmonics, and improved system stability compared to conventional methods. This study highlights the effectiveness of fuzzy-based control in enhancing the efficiency of FACTS devices, making it a viable solution for modern smart grids, renewable energy integration, and industrial power systems.by using matlab/simulink software 2024a
