Implementation of Power Quality Enhancement using Hybrid Series Active Filter

Objective

The main objective of the paper is to improve the power quality with the usage of Hybrid Series Active Filter by addressing harmonic distortion, which is a critical issue caused by the increasing presence of non-linear loads.

Abstract

This paper proposes, the importance of the quality of the power supply, which has been a significant concern over the years. The quality of the power can be considered with factors like current, voltage, and power factor. Parameters such as stability and reliability play an important role in determining the quality of supply. The end user often faces economic losses if the quality of the supply is inadequate. The main cause of degradation in power supply is harmonics. Voltage and current harmonics are critical issues that need to be addressed to improve power quality. The active filters are effective in enhancing power quality by mitigating harmonics. The authors have implemented the hybrid active power filter to improve the quality of the power supply, with a sliding mode controller used to ensure better system performance.
