Objective

The main objective of this project is to improve the reliability and stability of wind energy systems during grid disturbances. This is achieved by optimizing the control strategy of the converter and incorporating a supercapacitor-based energy storage system

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel approach to enhancing Zero Voltage Ride-Through (ZVRT) for wind generators by integrating Interchange of converter control (ICC) with an optimized Super-Capacitor Energy Storage System (SC-ESS). During ZVRT, the grid power drops to zero, causing large DC-link voltage overshoot. Traditional methods, such as braking choppers, are limited due to significant energy loss and heat dissipation. By implementing ICC to interchange control between the Machine Side Converter (MSC) and Grid Side Converter (GSC), and combining this with a finely tuned SC-ESS connected through a bidirectional buck-boost converter (BBBC), the proposed method reduces DC-link voltage overshoot and enhances dynamic performance. The approach is compared to existing ZVRT methods, demonstrating its superior effectiveness.by using matlab Simulink software 2018a.
