Enhancing Care and Communication for Paralyzed Patients: A Microcontroller-Based Gesture Sensor Approach with GSM Integration

Project Code :TEMBMA3758

Objective

The project uses a microcontroller with gesture sensors to detect hand movements from paralyzed patients and sends alerts through a GSM module for easy communication. This system helps improve patient care by enabling quick and reliable emergency notifications.

Abstract

  • This project presents a microcontroller-based prototype designed to improve care and communication for paralyzed or bedridden patients by enabling them to express their needs through simple gestures. The system is built around an Arduino microcontroller, which processes input from a MEMS-based gesture sensor that detects hand or limb movements. These gestures are interpreted as specific commands, which are then displayed on an LCD screen for visual confirmation. To ensure timely assistance, a GSM module is integrated to send alert messages to caregivers or family members based on the detected gesture. Additionally, the system incorporates an APR9600 voice recording and playback module connected to a speaker, allowing pre-recorded voice messages to be played for audible communication. A push-button switch is included for emergency or alternative input, and all components are powered via a regulated 12V adapter. This affordable and user-friendly prototype demonstrates an effective assistive communication aid, offering enhanced independence and quality of life for paralyzed individuals.
