Edge AI-Enabled Smart Vision Assistant for Visually Challenged Individuals

Project Code :TEMBMA3773

Objective

The objective is to develop a portable edge-AI system that recognizes objects, text, and surroundings in real time, offering voice-based assistance to enhance independence and safety for visually impaired individuals.

Abstract

This project presents an Edge AI-enabled smart vision assistant for visually challenged individuals using Raspberry Pi, a web camera, ultrasonic sensor, earphones, and smart glasses. The system continuously monitors the surrounding environment and uses Edge AI-based computer vision along with distance sensing to detect obstacles and nearby objects in real time. When an obstacle is identified, audio guidance is provided through earphones to help the user navigate safely. The proposed system offers a low-cost, portable, and intelligent assistive solution that enhances independent mobility and safety for visually impaired individuals.
