Development of Bluetooth Based Indoor Positioning Application

Project Code :TEMBRE19_831

Abstract

People today are extremely dependent on technology. Ourlives are almost unimaginable without high-tech devices and gadgets. Users gladly give away any kind of information, like location, browsing habits or interests for some convenience. A positioning system provides a method or mechanism to approximate the location of an object in space. It can be used in outdoor environment with a few meters of accuracy, however for indoor localization is still an open problem. Global location refers to a point on Earth which is described by the longitude, latitude and altitude. Almost every phone is capable of GPS (Global Positioning System) navigation with various software support. Traffic congestion information, alternative routes, and weather forecast are provided by modern navigation systems if the user has sufficient Internet access. These days GPS is the most popular positioning system. GPS is a global satellite-based navigation system (GNSS) that provides localization information anywhere on Earth. This paper presents an Android application that is capable for proximity based indoor localization using Bluetooth. Proximity based localization can be useful for finding well recognizable objects or areas within building. The goal of the system is to locate offices in office buildings.
