The objective of this work is to develop a unified control strategy for hybrid AC/DC microgrids using an interlinking converter. It aims to regulate AC voltage/frequency and DC bus voltage under varying renewable conditions. The goal is to improve power quality through harmonic mitigation and efficient power-sharing.
This paper presents a comprehensive control strategy for enhancing power quality and ensuring reliable operation in a hybrid AC/DC microgrid consisting of PV, wind, small hydro, and battery storage systems. A bidirectional interlinking converter (ILC) is employed to regulate AC bus voltage and frequency while ensuring seamless power transfer between AC and DC sub grids. To eliminate harmonics and improve generator performance, a filtered-x affine projection adaptive filter is introduced for extracting fundamental active and reactive load components. Additionally, coordinated control of boost converters, bidirectional DC–DC converters, and machine-side converters ensures maximum power extraction and stable operation under varying renewable conditions. Experimental results validate the proposed control approach, demonstrating effective harmonics suppression, improved power quality, unity power factor operation, seamless mode transitions, and reliable bidirectional power flow in real-time hardware implementation.
