The paper investigates several important VCO parameters, including power consumption, frequency tuning range, and output amplitude.
This paper presents a comparison and performance analysis of two commonly used voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) in 45-nm CMOS technology: ring oscillators and current-starved VCOs. The analysis is based on simulation results using Cadence Spectre circuit simulator. The paper investigates several important VCO parameters, including power consumption, frequency tuning range, and output amplitude. The results show that ring oscillators have a wider frequency tuning range and lower power consumption, while current-starved VCOs have better phase noise performance and higher output amplitude. The paper concludes that the choice of VCO topology depends on the specific application requirements and design trade-offs.
