BeyondLife An Open-Source Digital Will Solution for Posthumous Data Management

Objective

The objective of the BeyondLife project is to provide a secure, efficient, and open-source platform for managing posthumous data. The solution aims to ensure that users’ digital assets and sensitive information are securely stored and accessed only by designated nominees after their death. By implementing advanced encryption techniques such as AES-GCM, the project seeks to protect users' files and information from unauthorized access. Additionally, it aims to streamline the process of managing digital inheritance, offering users a reliable method to assign nominees and manage their digital legacy.

Abstract

The BeyondLife project offers a secure, open-source solution for managing digital assets and sensitive data after an individual’s passing. As the digital world continues to grow, the importance of safeguarding posthumous data has become evident. BeyondLife provides a platform for users to create digital wills, where they can upload, manage, and designate trusted nominees for their digital assets. This platform ensures that users’ personal files and information are securely stored and accessed only by designated nominees following the user’s death.

Through the use of AES-GCM encryption, BeyondLife guarantees the confidentiality and integrity of the uploaded files. Once a file is uploaded, it is encrypted, ensuring that even if data is compromised, it remains inaccessible without the decryption key. The user can assign one or more nominees who are authorized to request and access files after the user's passing, subject to strict verification requirements, such as the submission of a death certificate and OTP validation.

Admin users play a vital role in overseeing and managing the platform, including viewing user accounts, handling file requests, and ensuring the smooth execution of the transfer process. The system’s architecture ensures that the entire posthumous data management process is seamless, secure, and transparent. By providing an accessible, secure, and scalable solution, BeyondLife addresses the growing need for managing digital inheritance and protecting users' digital legacy, all while maintaining a user-friendly experience.
