Objective

The objective of Beyond Life is to build a secure and intelligent digital will management system that allows individuals to safely create, encrypt, and distribute their sensitive information after death. The system ensures that only authorized beneficiaries, such as family members or legal representatives, can access specific parts of the will based on predefined rules using Policy-Driven Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (PD-CP-ABE). It incorporates AES-256 encryption for securing the will content and JWT-based authentication for safe user access. An executor can trigger the distribution process by uploading a verified death certificate, after which the system grants access to intended recipients based on attribute matching. All actions, including access and file handling, are logged to maintain transparency and accountability. The overall goal is to provide a privacy-preserving, tamper-proof, and user-controlled environment for posthumous digital asset management.

Abstract

Beyond Life is a secure, web-based digital will management system built using the MERN (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js) stack. It empowers individuals to create digital wills, upload confidential documents, and assign fine-grained access permissions based on user attributes like “family member” or “lawyer.” The platform uses advanced cryptographic methods to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data. Will content and attachments are encrypted with AES-256, while access is controlled using Policy-Driven Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (PD-CP-ABE), ensuring that only authorized beneficiaries with matching attributes can decrypt the data. Authentication is handled via JWT (HMAC-SHA256 or RS256), and data integrity is maintained using secure hashing algorithms such as SHA-256 or SHA-3. Users can assign beneficiaries and nominate executors to trigger will execution by submitting a verified death certificate. Upon validation, the system automatically grants access to the relevant content. Optional use of ECDSA or RSA supports secure digital signatures and verification. All user actions are logged for transparency and auditability. Overall, Beyond Life delivers a scalable, tamper-resistant, and privacy-focused platform for secure, posthumous digital asset management.
