An LLC Based Single Stage Step Up AC to DC Resonant Converter without Boost Circuit for EV Charging With High Power Factor

Also Available Domains AC-DC Converters

Project Code :TEPGED213

Objective

The main objective of this project is to develop a highly efficient, cost-effective, and simplified power conversion solution that integrates Power Factor Correction (PFC) and DC/DC conversion into a single stage, specifically designed for electric vehicle (EV) charging applications.

Abstract

This Project proposes a single-stage step-up ac/dc LLC resonant converter with a PFC function. The control of the LLC stage achieves PFC function and the first stage boost circuits in traditional PFCs are eliminated. As a result, boost circuit switching loss and related costs can also be eliminated. The resonant tank in the LLC stage achieves soft-switching to maintain a high conversion efficiency. A variable frequency control strategy is utilized in the LLC stage to realize the PFC function. Simulation were conducted through Matlab-Simulink to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Keywords: AC/DC converter, LLC resonant converter, power factor correction (PFC), zero voltage switching (ZVS).
