Objective

To develop an efficient energy management system for a solar PV-based EV charging station using hybrid energy storage, reducing battery stress, improving lifespan, and ensuring stable power flow under varying load and generation conditions.

Abstract

Abstract: This project presents an advanced energy management strategy for a solar photovoltaic (PV)-based electric vehicle charging station using a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS). The system integrates a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) to effectively manage power under varying load and generation conditions. A load current control technique is implemented to ensure optimal power sharing, where SMES handles transient demands and BESS supplies steady-state power. This approach significantly reduces battery stress and enhances lifespan. The system is modelled and validated using MATLAB/Simulink under different operating scenarios. Results demonstrate improved grid stability, reduced peak current, and efficient energy utilization, making the proposed system suitable for modern smart grid and EV charging applications.
