The main objective of the project is to monitor mechanical pressure and the vibration of an industrial machine with the help of an embedded system and IoT.
A multi-variable smart sensor is presented able to gather, validate, and locally process data on both temperature and tri-axial vibration, as part of an instrumentation system which, integrating small, smart, and deeply embedded βfieldβ devices in large numbers, may address the data requirements placed by new sophisticated Predictive Maintenance criteria applied to industrial rotating machinery.
The system presented here addresses the condition monitoring of critical parts in industrial rotating machinery comprising electric motors and the associated mechanical transmission gears, by performing a continuous, on-line monitoring of vibration and temperature of selected parts, at specific locations. In this manner, vibration based condition monitoring cross-correlated with temperature at potential hot-spot locations can be used to detect faults without having to stop the machines (the production), and diagnose the respective causes.
