A Smart Access Control for Restricted Buildings Using Vehicle Number Plates Recognition System

Objective

The main objective of this project is to allow only Authorized Vehicles into the Buildings or Apartments by keeping Database of Vehicle plate numbers

Abstract

The increased security concerns in hotels, government facilities and business buildings require identifying entering vehicles and controlling access to these facilities. The platform is automated with license plate recognition based on images of vehicles. However, in situations where standardized plates are not used, image-based recognition. License plate, police and background deformation. Manual work is required so to overcome these shortcomings, this work proposes a project for an automatic gate access controlling system which scans the vehicle plate numbers using a camera and optical recognition algorithm and compares it with the records stored in the database to decide whether to allow the car or not. The project is designed using a raspberry connected to a camera and a servo motor, Python was also used as a development tool. The system was successfully tested and showed to be a viable solution to the problem defined.
